Seahawks should take a chance on free-agent WR Michael Gallup
The Seattle Seahawks made surprising news when deciding to host free-agent wide receiver Michael Gallup on a visit. Gallup retired from the league less than a calendar year ago (July). Taking a chance on the un-retired playmaker would represent a shrewd decision by Seahawks general manager John Schneider.

Gallup broke out as a sophomore, recording 66 catches for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns during the 2019 campaign. The former Colorado State standout remained consistent in 2020, but a season-ending ACL injury in 2021 negatively altered the trajectory of his career. Gallup was never the same, failing to record 500 receiving yards in any single season from 2022-23, eventually retiring during the 2024 training camp period.
The Seahawks have two clear-cut options at receiver in Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp. Behind them are free-agent signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Jake Bobo. The team lacks proven depth at the position. If Gallup is truly interested in attempting a return, he could compete for the No. 3 receiver role in Klint Kubiak's new offense.
The Seahawks have little to lose. Gallup isn't going to command a large salary. At best, the Seahawks identify an unlikely source to contribute to the passing game in 2025.
