Roundup: Lakewood softball stays perfect with seventh-inning rally

Riley Williams’ leadoff home run highlighted a three-run top of the seventh inning Thursday, which allowed the Lakewood softball team to stay unbeaten as the Lancers rallied for a 6-4 victory against Granville in Licking County League play.

Jaycie Monroe’s squeeze bunt later in the seventh inning gave the Lancers (9-0, 3-0) the lead for good. Anna Crist added an RBI single for an insurance run.

Cora Redman recorded two hits, two runs and an RBI, Averie Adams two doubles and an RBI, Carly Williams two hits and an RBI and Ashlyn Carder a solo home run for Lakewood. Adams struck out one in 3 2/3 of hitless relief.

Megan Lodge led the Blue Aces (4-4, 1-2) with two hits and an RBI, and she also struck out seven. Sophia Patena added a double and a run, Hailey Dehnel a hit and a run and Jillian Brownfield a hit and an RBI.

Heights falls on road

Lily Meidl hit a three-run home run for Licking Heights in a 10-5 loss at Buckeye Valley.

Ali West added two hits, including a double, a run and an RBI and Hailey Anderson two hits and a run for the Hornets (3-5).

Newark falls at home

Mallory Back’s two hits and two runs led Newark in a 12-2 loss to visiting Teays Valley in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Lexi Shanaberg added a double and an RBI and Tyana Spears a hit and an RBI for the Wildcats (2-9, 2-3).

Liberty drops road game

Riley Kidd and Jerynn Miller each singled for Liberty Christian (1-6, 1-2) in a 14-0 loss at Delaware Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play. 

BASEBALL

GCA still perfect

Jordan Stump’s squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Aiden Geiger, giving Granville Christian a 5-4 victory against visiting Tree of Life in MOCAL play.

Aidan Rhoads notched a hit, a run and two RBIs, and Geiger added a hit and an RBI and Bentley Johnson two runs for the unbeaten Lions (5-0, 3-0). Rhoads struck out five and allowed one earned run in four two-hit innings, and Josh Benvie struck out four and allowed no earned runs in three two-hit innings.

Heights drops road game

Maxim Fink doubled and singled and drove in two runs for Licking Heights in a 10-3 loss at St. Charles.

Caleb Starns added two hits and a run and Johnny Morgan a double and a run for the Hornets (1-5).

BOYS TENNIS 

Newark sweeps

Newark did not drop a set in a 5-0 victory against visiting Logan in OCC-Buckeye play.

Doubles winners for the Wildcats (5-1, 2-0) were Grayson Boyer and Viktor Gleckler, 6-1, 6-2, and Bradley Pastorius and Isaac Devries, 6-3, 6-4. Singles winners were Evan Devries, 6-0, 6-0, Layton Shaner, 6-4, 6-1, and Kellen Grace, 6-4, 6-2.

BOYS LACROSSE 

Johnstown wins on road

Ben Smith made 12 saves as Johnstown held host Buckeye Valley scoreless during the final three quarters of a 6-2 victory.

Will Taylor racked up four goals and an assist for the Johnnies (5-2). Logan Brown and Warren Miller added a goal and an assist apiece, and Dominic Ortman caused four turnovers and fielded four ground balls.

Granville falls

Noble Terebuh scored twice for Granville in a 17-4 loss at unbeaten St. Charles.

Beckett Long added a goal and an assist and Woody Struthers a goal for the Blue Aces (0-6).
