Bayern Munich great Franck Ribery said that the club should give club icon Thomas Müller a new contract after reports that the Bundesliga leaders won't extend his deal after the season.

"Thomas is very important for the dressing room, he has a big influence," Ribery told the Sport Bild weekly on Wednesday.

"Thomas has done so much for the club, for the city of Munich. If he wants to play for another year, then the club should give him this contract," he added.

The contract of 35-year-old Müller expires on June 30 and, according to media reports, Bayern have already informed him that he won't get an extension.

Müller joined Bayern's youth academy in 2000 and made his Bundesliga debut for the club in 2008. With the club, he won the Bundesliga 12 times and the Champions League twice, among several other titles.

Ribery, meanwhile, left Bayern in 2019 after winning nine league titles and one Champions League trophy. He ended his career in 2022.
