Report: Colts' scouts meet with pass-catching RB at Pro Day

A pair of Indianapolis Colts scouts met with Ball State running back Braedon Sloan, according to Justin Melo of The Draft Network.

Sloan measured in at 5-11 and weighed 207 pounds. He posted a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 5.87 out of 10.0. This included 20 reps on the bench press and running a 4.55-second 40.

The 2024 season was Sloan's first at Ball State. He carried the ball 150 times and averaged 3.9 yards per attempt with four touchdowns, according to PFF.

The 2023 season at Eastern Kentucky was Sloan's most productive of his career, where he totaled 763 yards on the ground at 5.3 yards per attempt with 10 touchdowns.

Throughout his career, Sloan has been an active part of the passing game as well, totaling 138 targets over three seasons, while averaging a whopping 11.8 yards per reception.

The Colts could very much use a pass-catching threat out of the backfield. This was an element that the offense didn't have last season, and it would add another facet for defenses to contend with.

"I think I bring a lot of versatility to the table at the running back position," Sloan told Melo in an interview. "I can make somebody miss in the open field when I have to. I can also put my head down and run with power behind my shoulder pads.

"I can also protect in the passing game, and catch the ball coming out of the backfield. I try to be as versatile as possible so that I can be used in as many ways as possible."

While the Colts did sign Khalil Herbert in free agency to a one-year deal, that addition shouldn't stop them from making an addition in the draft, especially with how much talent is in this year's class.

Whether it comes from Herbert or someone else, as GM Chris Ballard said earlier this offseason, the Colts need more production from the backup running back role this season.
