Recently Acquired Wild Forward Records First Point With New Team
ST. PAUL - In his sixth game with the Wild, recently acquired forward Gustav Nyquist recorded his first point with the Wild.
Nyquist, 35, was acquired before the trade deadline from the Nashville Predators for a second-round pick. He had played in five previous games, before Thursday’s game, without a point.
That was until Nyquist caught Marcus Johansson with a pass up the middle of the ice on the power play. Johansson flew into the offensive zone and ripped home his sixth goal of the season.
After scoring a power-play goal, Johansson drew a four-minute penalty after he ate Zac Jones blade. A quick change by Wild head coach John Hynes and the second power play unit was back on the ice.
“I felt like the guys on both units were playing pretty well, and obviously they had scored their first goal,” Hynes said. “So, sometimes when a unit scores one, they're feeling it, and they're hungry to get back out there and make a difference. And they certainly did again."
Freddy Gaudreau was able to get another power play goal to tie the game again but the New York Rangers ended up with an overtime winner from Braden Schneider.
Nonetheless, it was good to see Nyquist get his first point with the Wild this year since the trade.
