Real Madrid start ‘impossible mission’ to find a long-term replacement for club legend
As we approach the final phase of the campaign, Real Madrid will have to make some difficult decision with regards to squadbuilding for the season ahead.
One of them will be the future of Luka Modric. Irrespective of whether or not the Croatian international continues for another year, it is clear that Real Madrid must find a replacement sooner rather than later.
Real Madrid kickstart search for Modric replacement
A recent report from Rodra P (h/t RM4Arab) has indicated that Real Madrid scouts, led by Juni Calafat, have already started an almost impossible mission of finding a replacement for Modric.
The club realise that finding a player with Modric’s stature and longevity will be impossible to find. However, they are combing through the market, looking for someone who can offer the same level of talent and creativity in the middle of the park, if not the longevity.
Calafat, to that end, is aware of the sheer difficulties his team is going to face in finding such a player. But he is not willing to give up just yet.
Real Madrid’s initial idea was to integrate Arda Guler as the ideal long-term replacement for Modric. But as time passed, the Turkish international veered more towards an attacking midfield role.
As such, Real Madrid have dropped the idea and are scouring the market for a player who can offer a similar profile to that of Modric.
Modric wants to continue
Modric, for his part, has shown no signs of significant decline and still remains a key component in the Real Madrid midfield.
In fact, it appears the veteran midfielder is keen on staying another year at the Santiago Bernabeu by potentially extending his contract until 2026.
However, this is too early to deduce Modric’s future and all decisions have been postponed at least until May.
One thing is for sure, Real Madrid have started preparing for life without Modric, irrespective of whether or not the Croatian international continues for another year.
