Real Madrid secure win over Villarreal as Mbappe sounds warning over fatigue – ‘ We gave everything’
Kylian Mbappe played a crucial role in Real Madrid’s victory over Villarreal, scoring twice to secure the three points.
However, the French forward acknowledged that the match was physically demanding due to the limited recovery time after their intense clash against Atletico de Madrid.
With less than 72 hours between the two fixtures, fatigue was evident, and Real Madrid were not pleased with the scheduling.
Important win for Real Madrid
Despite these challenges, Mbappe and his teammates showed resilience on the pitch. Villarreal have been one of the stronger teams in the league this season, making the encounter even more difficult.
“A very important and very difficult match because Villarreal is a team that plays well and is at the top of the league.
“It was very difficult, but we had the personality and desire to play and win. We fought until the end and we’re back with the three points,” he said after the game.
Real Madrid players were tired
The recent derby against Atletico Madrid had taken a toll on the squad. The high-intensity match lasted 120 minutes, filled with emotion and physical exertion.
From the warm-up itself, it was clear that this game would be a challenge due to the accumulated fatigue.
However, the players remained committed to giving their all, respecting the badge, and pushing through the difficulties to claim victory.
“Everyone watched the match against Atletico. There was a lot of intensity and excitement over 120 minutes.
“It was already evident in the warm-up; this was difficult due to fatigue, but we have to respect the crest and fight until the end. Today we gave everything we had, and it was enough to win.”
A great start to the new year
Mbappe’s brace against Villarreal also marked a significant milestone in his debut season with Real Madrid.
The Frenchman has now scored 31 goals, surpassing Ronaldo Nazario’s record of 30 in a debut campaign. He is now just two goals away from equalling Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally of 33 in his first season at the club.
While personal achievements are notable, Mbappe remains focused on the bigger picture. He expressed his satisfaction with how the season is unfolding, both individually and as part of the team.
“I feel very good. My 2025 season is going very well, both personally and with the team. My job is to help the team win.”
While goal records are important, he believes they only hold true significance if they contribute to major triumphs.
“Goals are important, but they’re just numbers. If I score more goals than Cristiano or Ronaldo Nazario, it doesn’t mean I’m greater; the important thing is helping us win titles.
“It’s only worth scoring goals if we win La Liga, the Champions League, and the Copa del Rey,” he added.
