Raiders lose promising former 1st round edge rusher to Patriots
It's difficult to imagine a former first round pick being a 'find' for any team, but that's pretty much what he was for the Raiders last season. The former Jaguar came to the Raiders early in the season after being released by the Panthers and went on to have his best season, showing the skills that got the former LSU star selected with the 20th overall pick in the 2020 draft.
This success had many hoping the Raiders would get him back into the fold. But it wasn't to be. Thursday, he signed on with the Patriots.

It's certainly possible the Raiders made an effort to get Chaisson back, but weren't willing to make the $5 million investment in him the Patriots did.
The Raiders already made Maxx Crosby the highest paid non-QB in NFL history and re-signed Malcolm Koonce to a one-year $12 million deal. Add Tyree Wilson still being on his contract as the former seventh overall pick and that's a lot of money tied up in one position.
Chaisson got a pretty rich deal from the Patriots, even with the promise he showed last season, putting up five sacks, eight QB hits, and seven tackles for loss.
Clearly Chaisson is hoping he can build upon that season and then hit free agency again next offseason on a high note. These days all the highest paid non-QBs are pass rushers, which makes sense after watching what the Eagles were able to do to the Chiefs in order to hoist the Lombardi in February.
