The Las Vegas Raiders acquired a new dealer this offseason in the form of Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks.
A short time after welcoming the signal caller to Sin City, they'll hope Smith deals them a royal flush following the trade. On Thursday, the Raiders gifted the quarterback a contract extension that keeps him in the silver and black for the next three seasons.
For the price of a third-round pick, Vegas significantly upgraded what was an unproductive quarterback room. In doing so, they may have successfully navigated having to invest a top draft pick into a market that doesn't have a lot of confident buyers at the NFL draft.
Instead, the Raiders can let the draft come to them.
After hiring Pete Carroll, there is a Seattle influence on Vegas right now. The duo of Carroll and Smith will hope that winning follows it. At the very least, they'll have a few years to figure it out as the Raiders kicked their rebuild into high gear.
Here's what to know about Smith's contract extension.
Geno Smith contract details
Smith inked a two-year, $75 million extension with the Raiders, according to reports. The deal carries a max value of $85.5 million and comes with $66.5 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The 34-year-old was set to become a free agent after the 2025 season. It was the final year of a three-year, $75 million extension that Smith signed with the Seahawks after his breakout season in 2022.
The new contract will keep him in Vegas through the 2027 season. His cap hit for this upcoming season is $31 million and the extension carries an average annual value (AAV) of $37.5 million.
That ties him with the New Orleans Saints'Derek Carr as the 16th highest-paid quarterback in the league, according to OverTheCap.
Smith, who has been a Pro Bowler in two of the last three seasons, will look for a return to form in 2025.
