Purdue basketball's Fletcher Loyer had an injury against Michigan. What we know about his status
INDIANAPOLIS — As Purdue basketball awaits details of its NCAA tournament path, it also awaits updates on the condition of a veteran starter.
Fletcher Loyer suffered a left elbow injury in Friday’s 86-68 Big Ten tournament quarterfinal loss to Michigan. He returned to play several minutes but left the game for good with a little over three minutes to play.
Loyer was not available for interviews after the game, as he was being examined by a doctor.
The third-year shooting guard suffered the injury when he crashed to the floor on a defensive rebound attempt. At the next media timeout, though, Loyer gave Purdue coach Matt Painter a thumb’s up. He re-entered when play resumed, taking a couple of close-range practice shots with his right arm before play resumed.

Loyer missed a pair of 3-pointers but made a pair of free throws in his remaining eight minutes.
“I didn’t want to put him back in — I didn't want him to further injure something, whatever — but our (athletic) trainer said he didn’t think that was possible,” Painter said. “(Loyer) wanted to go back in.”
Loyer was one of several Boilermakers afflicted by open shots which did not fall. He went 0 for 6 from the field (0 for 3 from 3) but made 5 of 6 at the line and dished three assists. He also took a charge in the final seconds of the first half, negating a basket and holding Michigan to a four-point lead.
Loyer has started all 107 games of his Purdue career.
“He’s obviously a very tough player,” senior Caleb Furst said.
