India Mattingly capped a two-out rally in the fifth inning with a two-run single that lifted Pontiac to a 3-1 victory over Chatham (Glenwood) in a nonconference softball contest Friday at The Diamond at Williamson Field.
Mattingly’s line drive single to right plated Elena Krause with the go-ahead run and Nevaeh Vogt with the insurance tally. Vogt had driven in the tying run with a single that plated Alexis Legner to make it 1-1.
Krause did the rest in the circle by striking out four of the final eight batters she faced. Krause had 16 strikeouts while allowing four hits and no earned runs for the Tribe (4-1).
Krause added two hits at the plate while Mattingly had a hit and two RBIs. Vogt had a hit and RBI while Natalie Zimmerman collected two hits and Tessa Collins, Kendall Pitchford and Legner each singled.
Tolono 3, Pontiac 2 – At Tolono, a one-out walk-off home run from Grace Bickers provided host Tolono (Unity) with an Illini Prairie Conference victory over Pontiac on Thursday, April 10. Elena Krause took the loss for the Tribe despite striking out 17 in the nine-inning contest.
PTHS, which had won 16 straight dating back to last season, tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning as Kira Johnson and Nevaeh Vogt scored. Liv Lindsay had three hits, Alexis Legner singled twice and Vogt doubled. Krause and Izzy Heins each singled.
Marquette 14, Dwight 8 – At Ottawa, Dwight lost a five-run advantage as host Ottawa (Marquette) rallied for a Tri-County Conference victory Thursday, April 10. Taylor Frobish belted a grand slam homer and Averi Jury followed with a solo shot as to account for the Trojans’ five-run second inning.
Jury had a homer, double and drove in two runs to pace the Dwight (3-6) offense. Raegen Brown collected two doubles while Frobish delivered a homer and four RBIs and Mckenna Woodcock smacked a solo home run. Miranda Bovelle had a hit and RBI. Madi Ely struck out four in taking the loss in the circle.
Prairie Central 13, St. Thomas More 0 – At Champaign, Dixie Hogan tossed a one-hit shutout as Prairie Central posted an Illini Prairie Conference victory over host St. Thomas More April 10. Hogan struck out nine.
Rylee Galloway had a triple and two singles to lead a 14-hit attack for the Hawks (7-6). Jules Woodrey had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs, Sam Slagel collected a triple and double, and Kate Slagel singled twice. Maggie Fehr had a double and two RBIs. Hogan and Faith Fields had a hit and RBI apiece. Kyla Stephens and Abigail Bowden each singled.
GCMS 14, Lexington-Ridgeview 4 – At Lexington, Belle Payne had three hits at the plate but took the loss in the circle as Lexington-Ridgeview dropped a Heart of Illinois Conference contest to Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley on April 9.
Payne had three hits and drove in a run to help lead the Minutemen offense. She struck out five in the circle. Ella Sunday had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run while Eva McCue collected a double, single and RBI. Eleana Atkins had two hits.
Pontiac 11, Clifton 6 – At Pontiac, Clifton (Central) scored five runs in the fourth inning, but Pontiac had built a comfortable lead and weathered the rally in claiming a nonconference decision on April 8. Natalie Zimmerman got the win, striking out four. Payton Rogers finished up, fanning six.
