Inter 2-0 Cagliari: Player ratings
Inter: Sommer 6; Bisseck 7.5, De Vrij 6, C.Augusto 7; Zalewski 6 (Bastoni 6), Frattesi 6, Calhanoglu 6 (Asllani n/a), Barella 6.5, Dimarco 7 (Darmian 6); L.Martinez 7 (Thuram 6), Arnautovic 8 (Correa).
Best Inter player: Arnautovic 8 – Dependable. Not more you can ask from a player who is widely considered an understudy. The Austrian was not even in Inzaghi’s top three options at centre-forward at the start of the season, but the 35-year-old showed he’s still got it in front of goal with an emphatic finish for the opener and an excellent assist for his strike partner for the second. He did brilliantly to bring the ball under control for Inter’s first goal as well – made it look a lot easier than it was. Subbed off to a standing ovation after an hour.
Coach: Simone Inzaghi 7 – There was a brief moment of panic after Inter conceded early into the second half that they would go on to perform similarly to how they did in the second halves in the recent 2-1 win over Udinese and the 2-2 draw with Parma. Fortunately, Bisseck restored Inter’s two-goal advantage 10 minutes later.
The Nerazzurri were in complete control in the first half, under slightly more pressure in the second, but got the job done in the end. The coach was even able to manage minutes ahead of the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich as well: Resting the likes of Thuram, Bastoni and Mkhitaryan, and he took Dimarco off after an hour, too.
