Pisilli recounts Roma beginnings, Ranieri’s impact and more
Roma youngster Niccolo Pisilli spoke to Sportweek about his beginnings at the club as well as Ranieri’s impact on the team.
“I remember the three tryouts at Trigoria, we were asked to play a series of games,” he said. “I remember the emotion of receiving the yellow and red kit.”
“I wasn’t expecting anything, but I really wanted it since I’ve always been a Roma fan. My mother told me by hiding the letter from the club under the tablecloth while we were at lunch…”
“I worked with many different coaches, important ones, like Marco Scisciola, who unfortunately is no longer with us.”
“I arrived in the first team when Mourinho was there, someone who needs no introduction. Then De Rossi, who had the courage to throw me in against Juve, I will always be grateful to him. There was Juric, a man of great experience. And now mister Ranieri.”
“What Ranieri’s appointment brought to the team? He managed to bring back calm and serenity, we were shaken by the negative period we were experiencing and that no one would have expected.”
“The coach with his energy, with the desire he transmits to us, helped us to get back on our feet. How did he do it? Maybe the secret is to do things in a simple way.”
“My first time with the first team I was shy, I am like that by nature, I was the last to arrive. I was a little afraid to move so as not to seem like an outlier. Edoardo Bove helped me a lot; we didn’t know each other before, but he came from the youth sector like me and gave me advice on what to do and how to behave, it was crucial for me.”
“Now I have settled in. When we are together we have fun and this is also a little secret to make things go well. The teammates are all nice, Mancini makes you laugh a lot and I get along very well with Baldanzi.”
“Dybala? On the pitch, you all see him. Off it he is even better, he is a champion who helps everyone and always has a good word. He could not care, instead he is an example in everything he does.”
“My contract extension? I’m very happy, but I have to continue to improve and demonstrate that the club has made the right choice.”
“To remain all my life at Roma? Roma has to be deserved. Often the choice is not the player’s, everyone has to agree, you have to prove your value every day on the pitch. If someone performs and wants to stay in a place and the club is happy, of course it can be done.”
“How do I see myself in ten years? I hope to be happy, a better player, with some trophies maybe. And above all I hope to remain a humble, good person, who behaves well with others.”
