Three local baseball teams took to the diamond Thursday. At the end of the night, two tight games and one blow out capped a sweep for the local teams.
Greensburg 3, Lawrenceburg 2
Visiting Lawrenceburg led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but Greensburg's offense pushed three runs across the plate and held on for the 3-2 win.
Greensburg improves to 2-0 on the young season. Lawrenceburg is 1-2.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the top of the third when Dustin Shaw scored on Kolton Chase's ground out.
The scoreboard remained the same until the Pirates came to the plate in the sixth. Joey Everroad drew a 1-out walk. Cy Miller followed with a single to push courtesy runner Hayden Ramsey to second base. With two outs, Luke Hoeing singled to score Ramsey and Miller moved to third base. Chase Walsman's doubled to drive in both Pirate runners and give Greensburg a 3-1 lead.
Lawrenceburg scored one run in the top of the seventh, but the Pirates closed the cage on any thought of a Tiger comeback to seal the 3-2 win.
Caleb Greiwe pitched 5.0 innings, allowing no earned runs on one hit and five walks while striking out seven. Jacob Duerstock pitched .2 innings, giving up no runs and no hits. Chase Tekulve pitched 1.1 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and three walks while striking out two in earning the win.
Offensively, Chase Walsman had a double and two RBIs. Greiwe, Hoeing (RBI) and Cy Miller all singled for the Pirates.
Batesville 7, Connersville 6
The Bulldogs and Spartans battled through nine innings before Batesville left Connersville with a 7-6 EIAC win.
Connersville took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Batesville answered with four runs in the top of the second and one in the top of the third. The Spartans pushed a run across in the home-half of the third and regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead 6-5.
Batesville tied the game in the top of the seventh when Carson Meyer's ground out scored Will Jaisle to send the game to extra inning. The game stayed at 6-6 until the top of the ninth inning. Dane Dudley opened the top of the ninth with a single. Jaisle followed with a double to drive in Dudley with what turned out to be the winning run.
Carson Schneider picked up the win for the Bulldogs on the mound. He pitched four innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out four. Dudley pitched three innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six. Rylan Yeager pitched two innings, allowing no earned runs on one hit and three walks with three strikeouts.
Dudley led the offense with two of Batesville five hits. Jaisle added a double and an RBI. Schneider and Yeager both added a single. Meyer and Yeager each had an RBI.
North Decatur 13, Morristown 0
North Decatur freshman starting pitcher Matthew Fields had a lot of zeros in his pitching stats following Thursday's 13-0 win at Morristown. Fields was in total control, pitching all five innings and allowing no runs, no hits and no walks while striking out eight in posting the perfect game.
While nothing was happening in the bottom of the innings, North had little problem being active in the top half of the innings. The Chargers scored one run in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Xander Jones.
North broke open the game in the second inning, scoring seven runs with two outs. Grayson Downey had an RBI double in the inning. Nolan Burkhart and Jones added RBI singles.
In the top of the third, the Chargers scored another five innings. Brayden Murray singled to start the inning. After a walk to Reisman and both runners moving up a base, Fields' single drove in two runs. Burkhart tripled to score ...
