Paulson Adebo contract: Details on free agency deal the New Orleans Saints could not match
The New Orleans Saints have had a very intriguing offseason so far, and during free agency, they have been working to both retain some of their own talent but also add new players into the fold. However, they have also lost some of their own free agents, including Will Harris, Payton Turner, Marquez Vades-Scantling, and the topic of today's article, cornerback Paulson Adebo.
Adebo has been a crucial part of the Saints' secondary for a few seasons now, and despite his season-ending injury in 2024, he was having a strong year when it came to making plays on the ball. Unfortunately, his penalties made it a tough decision on whether or not to bring him back on a new contract, and they waited too long to do so. The New York Giants would swoop in and sign the young cornerback to a substantial three-year contract, which may have been outside the Saints' price range at the time as they would bring back Chase Young on a similar pay scale around the same time.
Now that free agency has officially begun and teams have settled down a little bit, the contract that got him to leave the Saints has been detailed. Katherine Terrell of ESPN broke down some of the key components of the deal, including his $15 million signing bonus and a staggering $38.5 million in guarantees. That's a lot to pay for one of the most-penalized corners in the league coming off a broken leg, even if he makes more plays than he gives up.
The Giants gave Paulson Adebo a $15 million signing bonus and $38.5 million guaranteed. 2025 base salary is totally guaranteed, $13.5 million of 2026 base is totally guaranteed and the rest is guaranteed on the 5th day of the 2026 league year

This contract makes Adebo the 16th highest-paid cornerback currently, which is pretty substantial, but also understandable given he is still on the younger side of his career. In addition to that, the Giants did have a strong need for a cornerback this offseason, so it makes sense that they would drop some high-end money for one that they think can be high-end for them.
It is unfortunate for the Saints that he would end up leaving the team, but matching that salary would have been difficult and hard to justify for a team that has had a very easy time finding defensive back talent both via the draft and in free agency.
