Georgia Bulldogs football spring practice injury report
The Georgia Bulldogs have begun spring practice in preparation for the 2025 college football season. Georgia is pretty banged up along the defensive front and at running back entering spring practice.
The Bulldogs are without several key contributors on both sides of the ball. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart detailed UGA's injury situation entering spring practice.
"Guys that are out for spring, I think we have nine total guys," said Smart. "I do a year-to-year average. I think 2024, we had 12 outs. 2023, we had eight outs. 2022, we had 14 outs. I think we're at eight or nine, depending on how you classify a couple guys."
Georgia does not have a tremendous amount of injuries, but the Dawgs certainty have enough players out to impact their spring significantly.
Georgia Bulldogs spring injury updates
Smart notes that defensive end Gabe Harris, offensive tackle Monroe Freeling, safety Jaylan Morgan, defensive tackle Christen Miller and tight end Colton Heinrich all had labrum surgery on shoulder injuries.
"We've got five shoulder surgeries that happen at the end of the year. Those are all rehabbing right now. They're in really good progression in terms of getting back," said Smart. "(Labrum repairs are) very common. I had it when I played here. That's, I think, five of those. We've averaged five to six every spring."
Freeling, Miller and Harris are all projected to start, so their absences will open up more first-team reps for players further down the depth chart.
Additionally, Georgia true freshman quarterback Ryan Montgomery is out for the spring. He's recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in Aug. 2024 during his high school football season opener.
Georgia running backs Roderick Robinson (ankle) and Branson Robinson (PCL) both are still recovering from surgeries. Georgia punter Brett Thorson is also out. He tore his ACL in Georgia's SEC championship win over Texas. Thorson's status for fall camp is in doubt based on the timing of his injury.
Georgia defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye, former five-star recruit, will be limited this spring. "(He is) coming off the foot navicular surgery he had. He looks great. He's working out, running. He'll be limited to start spring and try to get to work his way back," stated Smart. Jonah-Ajonye recorded one tackle in four games before undergoing foot surgery.
Georgia's top cornerback, Daylen Everette, is also not 100% this spring. "Daylen (Everette) will be limited for the spring," said Smart. "He's not out, but he's out there working out now, doing things and coming back from a sports hernia, a sports kind of a groin repair. But prognosis is great. He's doing things limited. He's moving around."
