The Carolina Panthers seem to be embracing the "March Madness."
As announced on Monday afternoon, the team has signed former Division I basketball player Colin Granger. The 6-foot-9, 225-pounder will attempt a transition into football as a tight end.
A John's Creek, Ga. native, Granger began his collegiate basketball career at Ohio University in 2020. The forward appeared in 25 games over two seasons for the Bobcats, averaging 1.2 points and 1.2 rebounds per contest.
Granger then moved on to Western Carolina University in 2022. He played in 64 games there, with averages of 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds.
His final year of eligibility, the 2024-2025 campaign, was spent at Coastal Carolina University. He made 11 starts over 31 outings, averaging 7.2 points and 4.4 boards.
As noted by the Panthers' official announcement of the signing, this will be Granger's "first foray" into football.
He is now the sixth tight end on Carolina's roster—joining Tommy Tremble, Ja'Tavion Sanders, Jordan Matthews, James Mitchell and Dominique Dafney.
