OU basketball coach Porter Moser on Texas A&M rumors: 'Fighting to get the resources right'

NORMAN — Porter Moser's name never goes away during the college basketball coaching carousel.

Following rumors the OU basketball coach was a candidate for the Villanova job, which eventually went to former Maryland coach Kevin Willard, Moser's name is now being connected to the Texas A&M opening after former Aggies coach Buzz Williams filled the Terrapins' void.

Moser was asked during an interview on "The Zach Gelb Show" Thursday evening what his message would be to Sooners fans who are wondering if he'll be their coach next season.

"This thing with Oklahoma, the last couple of years you're kind of seeing that, there's been some things up in the Midwest," Moser said. "But the people in Oklahoma are special, it's one of the greatest places I've lived. It's just, you're fighting to get the resources right. And we are, we're moving in that right direction."

Moser's comments come as he debuted as the gambling favorite to fill the vacancy for the same role with the Aggies, per the betting odds BetOnline Sportsbook released Thursday morning.

Moser served as an assistant coach for Texas A&M from 1991-95 and from 1996-98. Moser met his wife, Megan, in College Station when she worked at The Tap, a well-known bar in College Station, Texas.

Moser led OU back to the NCAA Tournament this season after barely missing the cut three consecutive years. Moser has stressed in recent weeks how important NIL is for the future of the program and said he's optimistic about the Sooners' future.

"There was a lot of people that counted us out," Moser said. "... We fought through hard. We're going to continue to fight through that and there's just such opportunity, such a high vision of what we can do, being in this SEC and we're looking forward to it."
