Ole Miss basketball vs Auburn prediction in SEC tournament quarterfinals, injury updates
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Ole Miss basketball has a chance to avenge a one-sided loss.
The No. 8-seeded Rebels (22-10) face No. 1 Auburn (27-4) in the SEC tournament quarterfinals on Friday (Noon, ESPN) at Bridgestone Arena. It will be the third meeting between coach Chris Beard's Rebels and Bruce Pearl's Tigers.
The Rebels are 0-2 against Auburn. Ole Miss lost 92-82 in Oxford on Feb. 1 and then 106-76 at Auburn on Feb. 26. The latter defeat was Ole Miss' biggest loss of the season. The 106 points are the most Ole Miss has allowed under Beard.
Auburn will be well rested. The Tigers, who received a double bye in the SEC tournament bracket, played most recently on Saturday. The Rebels advanced to the game by beating Arkansas 83-80 on Thursday on Sean Pedulla's 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds left.
Slowing down Auburn center Johni Broome will be key for Ole Miss. Broome averages 18.3 points, which is No. 3 in the SEC. He also averages 10.6 rebounds, which is the top mark in the conference. Broome has averaged 22 points in his two games against the Rebels.
"We don't have to be better than Auburn," Beard said. "We just have to be better than Auburn for 40 minutes."

Senior Ole Miss guard Matthew Murrell has been playing through a lower-body injury and is expected to play.

Auburn 88, Ole Miss 76: Ole Miss gets a third chance to try to stop Johni Broome. So far nothing has worked. Because of the lack of home court advantage and unpredictability of tournaments, this game should have more resemblance to Ole Miss and Auburn's first meeting, a 10-point Tigers' win in Oxford, than the more recent 30-point Auburn blowout.
