Will Reyne Smith play for Louisville basketball vs Stanford at ACC Tournament?
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Reyne Smith will not return from a right ankle injury to play in No. 2-seeded Louisville basketball's ACC Tournament opener against No. 7 Stanford on Thursday night at the Spectrum Center, a team spokesperson said in a statement.
Smith, No. 13 U of L's (25-6) third-best scorer, sat out of last weekend's regular-season finale against the Cardinal after injuring his ankle early in the first half of a March 5 win over California. The Australian sharpshooter wore a boot on his right foot during the senior day victory but took it off to participate in the festivities. He is not wearing a boot in Charlotte.
When asked last weekend about Smith's status for the ACC Tournament, coach Pat Kelsey said: "He's a tough kid. He's going to get treatment like crazy; and, hopefully, he'll be ready to go."
Smith finished the regular season averaging a career-best 13.4 points on 39.4% shooting with a 38.3% clip from 3-point range across 30.8 minutes per game. With 106 treys to his name, he ranked ninth across Division I as of Thursday morning and was 17 shy of passing Taquan Dean for Louisville's single-season record.
