Now 102 vaults over 6 metres as Duplantis soars to world indoor title
Swedish star Armand Duplantis soared over 6 metres for the 100th time in his career on Saturday but faced competition from Greek Emmanouil Karalis before securing a third straight pole vault world indoor title in China.
Karalis followed Duplantis over 6.00m and 6.05m in Nanjing for a personal best before Duplantis clinched matters by also clearing 6.10m and 6.15m.
Duplantis now has 102 vaults over 6m in his career, compared to 45 former world record holder Sergey Bubka managed in his era. Duplantis, who also has two outdoor worlds and Olympic golds each, recently raised the world record to 6.27m.
Elsewhere, American serial winner Grant Holloway added a third straight 60m hurdles gold to three world titles and one Olympic gold in the 110m hurdles.
Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen got a first world indoor title when he dominated the 3,000m, to go with two Olympic and two worlds in 1,500m and 5,000m events.
