With so much player movement via the transfer portal, it was always a question if Notre Dame’s star guard Markus Burton would make a move elsewhere, but on Friday Jonathan Givony of Draft Express is reporting that he’s going to stay with the Irish.
The reigning ACC leading scorer hasn’t played on an over .500 team in either of his first two years in South Bend, but that could be changing next season.
Burton also had the option of testing the NBA draft process as well, but is all-in on Notre Dame and head coach Micah Shrewsberry. There will be an influx of new players on the Irish roster as well, as they welcome in one of the top recruiting classes in the country, headlined by 5-star combo-guard Jalen Haralson.
With some potential portal additions as well, it looks like Burton is banking on a much more successful 2025-26 season, with the potential of playing in the NCAA Tournament. This move is pretty telling, as he must believe that Notre Dame could make that jump. Hopefully, Burton is the one to lead the Irish back to the tourney.
