When Jack Flynn took the North Schuylkill softball job at the start of the season, he preached to his squad that they wanted to have a team concept.
“Everything we do is for the team,” said Flynn. “We are doing our best to make ourselves better.”
Flynn has gotten his players to buy into that message and they are finding success early on.
“He stresses that everything is for the team,” said Junior Brigid Flynn who is the daughter of coach Flynn. “It’s not about the individuals – we are just here for team success.”
It’s Flynn’s first year North Schuylkill stands at 6-2 overall with a 4-1 record in Schuylkill League Division 1 action. North Schuylkill wins came against Nativity, Minersville, Shamokin, Mahanoy Area, Panther Valley and Pine Grove.
The Lady Spartans have scored 11 plus runs in five of their wins so far in the season.
“It’s definitely the work we put in throughout the offseason,” said Brigid Flynn. “A lot of us were here hitting off the machine and just the positive attitude of everyone.”
Flynn as well as Lindsay Brouse have been key for the Lady Spartans success so far. Flynn is batting .519 to go along with 12 RBIs. Flynn also has a 4-0 record on the mound. Brouse, a senior on the squad, is batting .500 with 10 RBIs to go along with 13 hits.
“The girls have really bought in,” said coach Flynn.

Brouse has seen some differences from last year’s squad to this year’s squad that is helping North Schuylkill.
“We are more of a team this year than we have been in a while and it is really good,” said Brouse.
The Lady Spartans will be a force for anyone they see throughout the year and they know what they have to do to see that continued success.
The team has goals of making a deep run in leagues and districts, and believes they can make a good run.
“We have to keep doing what we are doing right now,” said Flynn. “Our pitching is on par with any other pitchers in the league. We need to keep continuing to hit well and clean up our errors that we had earlier in the season.”
North Schuylkill will have some tough ones coming up as they face Blue Mountain (6-1) and Pine Grove (8-1) again in the coming weeks. They fell to Blue Mountain, 11-3, and defeated Pine Grove, 6-5, earlier in the year.
Flynn is proud of his team and credits his players for coming in and working hard every day.
North Schuylkill will look to keep rolling when they travel to Our Lady of Lourdes Regional (0-5) Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
“We want to just keep winning and keep that positive mindset,” said Brouse.
