The No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners still haven't lost consecutive games this year. Not after bouncing back from Friday's loss to No. 10 Tennessee with a 4-1 win on Saturday to even the series.
Cydney Sanders was the biggest reason why.
The Oklahoma senior first baseman hit a three-run home run in the third inning to provide the Sooners with more than enough. She took a 1-1 pitch from Tennessee starter Sage Marjetko deep to left center at Love Field. Ella Parker and Gabbie Garcia also scored on the homer after they reached via a walk and an error, respectively.
Tennessee looked poised to rally at the beginning of the fourth when Taylor Pennell hit a solo home run on the second pitch of the inning. But Oklahoma starter Kierston Deal retired 12 of the next 13 batters she faced in shutting down any hopes of a comeback. She struck out five while giving up just four hits and a walk in her complete game.
Only three OU players had hits against Marjetko. Garcia hit an RBI triple in the first inning to open the scoring, Sanders homered, and Kasidi Pickering went 3 for 3 with three singles and a run.
Pannell had three of Tennessee's four hits. Saviya Morgan had the other.
Patty Gasso's team will seek to win its fourth straight SEC series in Sunday's finale against the Volunteers. in the First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
