NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Defenseman Pickups April 2 - Schneider, Sandin and Sam (Rinzel) Solid Selections

On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies are rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues and can be selected in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.

Braden Schneider, NYR vs, MIN (5% rostered)
Schneider is not a major offensive weapon from the blue line but he contributes across the board. He has three assists in his last four games , upping his season point total to 19, matching his career-high in that category set just last year. Add in 132 hits, 137 blocked shots and an average of 17:44 of ice time and you have a blueliner  whose value goes beyond just the major categories.

Rasmus Sandin, WAS @ CAR (10% rostered)
Skating on the top pairing with John Carlson has ancillary benefits. He had a strong March, earning seven assists and a plus-6 rating, as well as 16 hits and 20 blocked shots, over 11 appearances. That solid month moved his season totals to four goals, 24 assists, a plus-24 rating, 87 hits and 105 blocked shots. Like Scheider, offense is not his primary game, but he also contributes across the board.

Sam Rinzel © Matt Marton-Imagn Images

Sam Rinzel, CHI vs. COL (1% rostered)
This is one who like taking major fliers. Rinzel, selected 25th overall in 2022, signed his three-year entry-level contract with Chicago on Saturday. He posted 10 goals and 22 assists across 40 games with the University of Minnesota during his 2024-25 sophomore season. Rinzel immediately was placed on the Blackhawks' first defensive pairing, seeing 20:15 of ice time, including 2:45 on the power play.
