Kevin O'Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah have expressed their enthusiasm for J.J. McCarthy for the past two weeks. Rumors swirled last month the Vikings could be in a position to sign Aaron Rodgers, but in front of reporters, the head coach and general manager said all the right things regarding McCarthy, their 2024 first-round pick.
ESPN's Dan Graziano spent time at this week's NFL annual owners meetings, and he came away convinced the Vikings aren't just providing lip service in McCarthy. On Wednesday, Graziano appeared on ESPN's Get Up and said all signs point to the Vikings moving forward with the 22-year-old.
J.J. McCarthy’s the Vikings’ guy at quarterback. I mean, the dalliance with Aaron Rodgers could resurface, but I think based on everything I heard, it would take something drastic happening with J.J. McCarthy, something like another significant injury. They are full steam ahead with him. They believe that what they need to do this offseason is put the pieces around him to make him as successful as possible. So if you’re thinking that Aaron Rodgers is on the way to save the Vikings, I wouldn’t get my hopes up on that one.
So it appears the only way we get a Favre-like season with Rodgers is if something catastrophic happens to McCarthy. Otherwise, we'll have a Sam Bradford-like situation in 2016.
