New York Jets, Allen Lazard agree to sizable pay cut

In the end, Allen Lazard is not going anywhere.

After speculation about the veteran's possible departure from the New York Jets this offseason, he's staying. Not only that, as general manager Darren Mougey suggested, Lazard and the team have agreed to a new contract.

According to Over The Cap, Lazard has renegotiated his contract in new York and will stay after taking a decent pay cut.

“The Jets and wide receiver Allen Lazard have come to terms on a new contract, per a source with knowledge of the negotiations. Lazard, who was scheduled to earn $11 million in 2025, took an $8.5 million pay cut to remain under contract with the Jets in 2025. $1.75 million of his salary for the year is guaranteed. As part of the revised contract, Lazard will now become a free agent in 2026."

Lazard had two years remaining on the $44 million contract he signed with the Jets in 2023. He signed just prior to quarterback Aaron Rodgers joining the team that offseason.

Rodgers left New York this offseason, as did receiver Davante Adams. Lazard was signed by the Jets because of his connections to Rodgers, but he the 29-year-old will remain.

Lazard previously was seeking a trade but that did not happen. Along with Mougey noting a desire to work out a new contract with him, head coach Aaron Glenn praised Lazard's skills.

"Listen, anytime you have a player of that magnitude, he's a really good blocker," coach Aaron Glenn said at the NFL owners meetings. "I [coached] against him a number of times when he was in Green Bay, so I know what he brings to the table."

Despite that, there could still be scenario that Lazard is traded anyway because of the new contract. A different team could be much more open to paying that as opposed to his prior deal.

Lazard has failed to gain much steam during his tenure in New York, but Glenn's praise makes it sound possible he could stick around. In 12 games played last season, Lazard had 60 catches for 530 yards and six touchdowns.
