New York Giants continue to languish in 'quarterback hell'

Well, here we are six years later and the Giants are indeed in quarterback hell. I'll let you Dante's Inferno scholars define which of the nine circles they are in, but there's no debate -- they are in pretty deep.

The Giants have one quarterback under contract -- Tommy DeVito -- and are in search of both a veteran bridge option and a rookie to groom for the future. They are in a division with teams that have solid answers under center in Philadelphia (Jalen Hurts), Dallas (Dak Prescott) and Washington (Jayden Daniels) and are starting this new league year with one (if not more) wheel in the sand.

The good news is they have the third overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft to find their future signal caller. The bad news is that their top option (Miami's Cam Ward) could be off the board by the time they're on the clock.

The added good news is they have the available cap space to sign a quality veteran to serve as a bridge. The added bad news is their top choice, Aaron Rodgers, reportedly may opt for retirement over playing for them.

In addition, Rodgers is taking his time in making a decision. He wants to play in Minnesota, but the Vikings are still deciding if they want him. That delay has caused a logjam in the veteran free agent quarterback market. Players such as Russell Wilson and Joe Flacco (who both visited the Giants last week) are waiting to see where Rodgers ends up so they can find their new homes. One of those players could end up in East Rutherford this year.

The Giants are in this quandary not only because Gettleman swung and missed with Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick in 2019, but also due to his successor (Joe Schoen) sticking with Jones, signing him a four-year, $160 million in 2023.

By doubling down on Jones, the Giants directed their resources away from the quarterback position and missed out on several quarterbacks, which has set them back even further.

Right now, there seems to be no way out of this hell. It eventually will come, but whoever said if you miss on the quarterback position, it could set you back five years was right. At least when it comes to the Giants.
