MSU pitcher named to watch list for top amateur baseball award

A pitcher on the Spartans has been named to the midseason watch list for the top award in amateur baseball.

Michigan State baseball's Joseph Dzierwa has been named to the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award, presented by Chinook Seedery. The official watch list was revealed on Thursday.

Dzierwa is one of 45 to be included on the award's watch list. The Golden Spikes Award is annually handed out to the best college or high school baseball player in the country.

Dzierwa is a left-handed pitcher from Haskins, Ohio and has starred for the Spartans all season long. He leads the Big Ten and ranks fifth in the nation in ERA at 1.27. He also leads the Big Ten in strikeouts with 54 and WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) at 0.87.

Dzierwa is a huge reason for the Spartans getting off to one of their best starts in a long time this season. Michigan State is currently 17-10 overall and 4-5 in Big Ten play.
