The Dodgers and Cubs got things started last week in Tokyo, but the Stateside version of Opening Day arrives Thursday, with 28 major-league teams in action.

As the 2025 season begins, cllct takes a look at the top 10 active players based on their top card sales.

From Skenes to Judge and ... Dominguez?

1. Mike Trout

Trout’s card market was as hot as any athlete on the planet during the boom of the COVID-19 pandemic, led by the whopping $3.84 million sale for 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospects Superfractor 1/1 in August 2020.

Not only is it the most expensive card for any active baseball player, but it is the eighth-most expensive baseball card in history.

2. Paul Skenes

Until recently, it would be shocking to see a pitcher on this list, let alone ranked second. But the Skenes hype, excellent rookie season, and, perhaps most importantly, the advent of the Rookie Debut Patch card, drove the price for Skenes’ top card to $1.11 million in March 2025.

The buyer? Dick’s Sporting Goods.

3. Shohei Ohtani

There was at one point a significant delta between Ohtani and the top of the list, but that changed when his 2024 Topps Dynasty Black Logoman 1/1 fetched $1.1 million at Heritage in March.

That card features the MLB logo from the pants Ohtani was wearing when he hit the 50th home run of his historic 50-homer, 50-steal season.

Ohtani's previous record sale came in November 2024, when his 2018 Bowman Chrome Rookie Autographs Orange Refractor /25 sold for $533,140.

4. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

In April 2022, Guerrero Jr. was coming off of a massive 2021 that saw him place second in MVP voting, lead the MLB in home runs (48) and runs scored (123), as well as a league-leading .401 OBP.

This was reflected in his card market, as his 2016 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Auto /5 fetched $552,000.

5. Jasson Dominguez

One of these things is not like the other.

Before ever playing a major-league game, Dominguez was such a hot prospect his 2020 Bowman Chrome Prospect Superfractor 1/1 sold for $474,000 in February 2022.

Three years later, and the 22-year-old has 26 games under his belt, batting .207 with six career home runs. Time will tell if this was a prescient purchase or a disastrous decision.

6. Bryce Harper

Harper came into the league as one of the most hyped prospects in recent memory and has largely delivered on that promise. His card market reflects his Hall of Fame-caliber career, with his 2011 Bowman Chrome Superfractor 1/1 ...
