Mike Tomlin pulled out all the stops with some hard-hitting answers at the 2025 NFL Annual League Meeting.
Newly acquired Pittsburgh Steelers WR DK Metcalf—a freakish athlete with elite speed and catch radius—may closely resemble a receiver already on the roster: star WR George Pickens.
Both athletes stand at 6'3", but that’s where their similarities end—at least according to Tomlin.
When asked whether having two wide receivers with similar toolkits would be a negative, Tomlin quickly dismissed the notion in hilarious fashion:
"They're both downfield capable, but they're different people. DK is a big man. George Pickens is tall, and there's a difference."
According to the NFL website, Pickens is listed at 200 lbs, while Metcalf is billed at 234 lbs—so Tomlin isn’t necessarily wrong in his assessment.
Still, the need for a true route-runner shouldn't be lost on Tomlin or the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the 2025 NFL Draft could present the Steel City with an opportunity to create arguably the most dangerous WR trio in the league today.
Mike Tomlin says he doesn't think that DK Metcalf and George Pickens' similar skills will be negative because he thinks they're not as similar as people think.
