NFL passes Steelers' proposed free agency rule change

The Pittsburgh Steelers' 2025 rule change proposal surrounding free agency meetings and visits has been passed by the NFL—as players will now be allowed to have Zoom calls during the legal tampering period, and meetings can be set up prior to the start of the new league year.

Prior to the rule change, only the agents of players were allowed to be in contact with teams during the legal tampering period, and no meetings were allowed to be scheduled until the new league year began.

Steelers President Art Rooney II recently discussed why this rule change would be necessary moving forward, with his comments made available on the team website:

"I do think it's an improvement in terms of really being able to talk to the player himself, rather than just his agent, in that negotiating window," Rooney acknowledged. "We think it's an improvement."

This will change free agency drastically moving forward, as players without agents will now have a level playing field to contact teams before the new league year begins—all thanks to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
