In what almost sounds like an April Fools' joke, Meechie Johnson has announced he will transfer back to South Carolina for a second time.
Johnson entered the transfer portal late last week and it didn't take long for him to find his new/old home once again. For those keeping track, Johnson began his career at Ohio State in 2020 where he would spend two years with the Buckeyes. He then transferred to play for the Gamecocks for the next two seasons. He would have his most productive collegiate season in 2023-2024 averaging 14.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and nearly three assists per game while being named second-team All-SEC. After the two seasons in Columbia, Johnson decided to head back to Columbus where it all began, but he would only appear in 10 games before taking a leave of absence which later be attributed to mental health reasons. Now, Johnson will go back to South Carolina once again. Whew... that's enough to make someone's head spin.

While Johnson has committed to the Gamecocks, he will need a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA to grant him a sixth season of eligibility.
