Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Matthew Stafford set a record with his new contract. He has now earned the most career earnings money in NFL history, with $391,313,912 (includes guaranteed money through 2025) according to Spotrac.
He surpassed Aaron Rodgers once he signed a restructured contract with the Los Angeles Rams. Through the new terms he'll earn over $65.5 million guaranteed throughout the next five years instead of making only $4 million.
Stafford transformed his career with the Los Angeles Rams. After a 12-year career with the Detroit Lions, where he failed to win a playoff game, he was traded to Los Angeles in 2021, where he immediately flourished, winning a Super Bowl in 2021, making two Pro Bowls, and winning another playoff game in 2024.
Much of Stafford's career earnings are from his extension with the Detroit Lions in 2017. In that contract, he made $135 million through five years ($92 million guaranteed), including $51 million guaranteed in 2017, the most out of any year in his career.
There are currently several Georgia Bulldogs going through the 2025 free agency cycle. Some of them have found new teams, like Azeez Ojulari, and some are still looking, but for any player that is looking for more money, Stafford is king.
