The reigning U.S. Open champion followed that with a 7-foot birdie putt at the par-4 fifth to get into solo second place and within two shots of leader Justin Rose.
DeChambeau's deficit was cut to one when he birdied the par-5 eighth and parred the ninth to turn in 32.
Though he couldn't maintain the momentum on the second nine, DeChambeau carded one birdie and one bogey for an overall 68. At 7 under par, he is one back of leader Justin Rose.
