Marie-Philip Poulin recorded a goal and an assist in Canada's opening win of the 2025 World Championships. She scored, and set up Jennifer Gardiner in Canada's 5-0 decision against Finland.

In the second game of the tournament, Poulin notched assists on each of Canada's first three goals in a 4-0 win over Switzerland.

Poulin's five points in her first two games of the IIHF World Championships moved the Canadian captain within a point of second all-time on Canada's scoring charts at the Worlds. Poulin currently sits with 82 points, only one behind Hockey Hall of Fame member Jayna Hefford. Hefford currently serves as the executive vice president of hockey operations for the PWHL, the league where Poulin serves as captain of the Montreal Victoire.

Poulin is also in striking distance in the tournament to catch Hayley Wickenheiser to become Canada's all-time leading scorer at the IIHF World Championships, for men or women.

Wickenheiser played 61 games recoding 86 points for Canada at the tournament.

Goal Scoring Record Also In Reach

Marie-Philip Poulin thought she scored her 37th career goal at the IIHF World Championships in the opening frame of Canada's win over Switzerland. She pulled the puck to her backhand beating Swiss goalie Andrea Brandli high, but rung the puck off the bar.

When Poulin does find the back of the net again for Canada, it will tie her at 37 goals alongside Wickenheiser and Danielle Goyette for second all-time among Canadians.

Jayna Hefford holds Canada's current goal scoring record with 40 goals.
