WESTVILLE — In a rematch of last year's IHSA Class 2A sectional semifinals, the Monticello Sages cruised past the Westville Tigers 18-5 on Friday.
Monticello, which ended Westville season a year ago with a 2-0 triumph, had four innings with 4 or more runs, including a 6-run third inning.
Carter Foran, Colton Vance and Eric Arnold each finished with four hits in the contest for the Sages, while Vance having a home run and four RBIs.
Matt Darling and Ben Johnson were each 2-for-3 for the Tigers, who fell to 4-1 on the season, while Easton Bolin had a 3-run homer in the 4-run third inning for Westville.
Manteno 13, Hoopeston Area 3
HOOPESTON — The Cornjerkers took an 1-0 first inning lead, but Manteno would score the next 13 runs to win in five innings.
Waylon Page had two RBIs for Hoopeston Area while Fletcher Swartz had an RBI and Cole Miller had two hits.
The Cornjerkers were coming off a 6-0 win over Rantoul on Thursday. On the mound, Zach Huchel had four strikeouts and gave up four hits for the win for the Cornjerkers, while Miller had two hits with four RBIs. Dallas Sheppard and Huchel also added an RBI.
The Cornkjerkers will try to regroup against Herscher today.
BHRA 12, Geo-RF 0
GEORGETOWN — The Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin baseball team got going early and did not stop against Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Thursday.
The Blue Devils had 15 hits as they beat the Buffaloes 12-0 in six innings to break a two-game losing streak.
Winning pitcher Caden Keleminic had 12 strikeouts and gave up four hits for BHRA and had two RBIs at the plate. Anderson Thomas and Jaxon Spicer each had three hits and three RBIs, Micah Stanford had three hits and two RBIs, Cruz Dubois had two hits and a RBI, Austin Campbell had an RBI and Ethan Dubois had two hits.
Jackson Pratt had two hits for Geo-RF, while Jase Latoz had four strikeouts in five innings.
The Blue Devils will play Unity on Monday.
Monticello 15, Oakwood 0
MONTICELLO — The Oakwood baseball team took a trip to Monticello on Thursday and it was not a successful one.
The Comets only had one hit as they lost 15-0 in four innings.
Bryson Marcinko had the lone hit for Oakwood, while Xander Wilson had three strikeouts in the loss.
The Comets are 3-4 and will play Reed-Custer and El Paso-Gridley today.
A-P 9, Villa Grove 4
VILLA GROVE — The Armstrong-Potomac baseball team took the lead early and ended up with a 9-4 win over Villa Grove on Thursday.
Davyn Franzen had two doubles with four RBIs for the Trojans, while Cole Bailey had two RBIs, Traxton Roberts had three RBIs, Becket Moran had an RBI and Ryan Edwards had two hits at the plate and had six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings to get the win.
The Trojans are 9-4 and will play Fisher on Wednesday.
PREP SOFTBALL
Hoopeston Area 13, Rantoul 3
HOOPESTON — After losing to Danville on Thursday, the Cornjerkers rebounded with a big win over Rantoul.
Maddie Barnes had two hits and three RBIs for Hoopeston Area, while Addyson Kelnhofer had two hits and two RBIs, Mollie Anderson, Peyton Irons and Viviana Zamarripa each had one RBI and Macy Warner and Melina Vogel each had two hits.
The Cornjerkers are 3-2 and will face Champaign Central on Monday.
Marshall 18, Salt Fork 0
MARSHALL — The Storm found itself down 10-0 in the first inning and could not recover against Marshall.
Alexa Jamison had two hits for Salt Fork, while Lainey Ehler had a hit and Karli McGee had two strikeouts on the mound.
The Storm are 5-1 and will face LeRoy on April 5.
