Liberty acquire veteran guard Natasha Cloud in surprise trade from Connecticut Sun
For the second time in two months, Natasha Cloud has been traded. The veteran guard, who was acquired by the Connecticut Sun last month, has been sent to the New York Liberty before ever putting on a Sun uniform.
In return, the Sun receive two draft picks, acquiring the Liberty's seventh overall pick in this year's draft, and a first rounder for the 2026 draft.

Welcome to NY, @T_Cloud4! 💪☁️ pic.twitter.com/c2qhbWj1Y6
Cloud, who spent last season with the Phoenix Mercury, was traded to Connecticut in February as part of the blockbuster trade that sent Alyssa Thomas to Phoenix. The trade indicated that the Sun was fully embracing a rebuilding year; Connecticut sending away a vet like Cloud proves that even further.
While baffling that the Liberty announced the trade in the middle of the NCAA women's basketball selection show, it's a intriguing move for the defending champs. Cloud, 33, averaged 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game last season, averaging just over 33 minutes per game. She'll be a solid addition to the New York locker room, especially in a leadership capacity.
Cloud has spent the WNBA offseason in the inaugural Unrivaled season with Phantom BC, playing alongside star Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu. The team finished sixth of six teams in the regular season, failing to make the playoffs.
Prior to her year in Phoenix, Cloud spent most of her WNBA career with the Washington Mystics. She played eight seasons in Washington starting in 2015, skipping the 2020 COVID-19 season in the "Wubble."
