Lafayette Jeff senior Peyton Parker and West Lafayette freshman voted J&C Athletes of the Week

LAFAYETTE - West Lafayette freshman Molly Mansfield dazzled in her Red Devils debut and Lafayette Jeff senior Peyton Parker hammered the ball to earn Journal & Courier Athlete of the Week awards.

Parker led all male candidates with 10,975 votes and Mansfield received 23,585 tallies to lead all vote getters.

Here's what Mansfield and Parker accomplished to earn their respective honors.

Peyton Parker - Lafayette Jeff

Parker, a senior outfielder was among one of three Lafayette Jeff outfielders to produce three RBIs to lead the Bronchos to wins against Carroll last Saturday 11-2 in game one and 11-1 in game two. Completing three RBIs trifecta for Lafayette Jeff were freshman third baseman Mason Utermark and junior outfielder Will Armstrong.

Molly Mansfield - West Lafayette

The freshman pitcher pounded the strike zone during the first two games of her high school career. Mansfield threw 3.1 innings and struck out seven batters in a 5-4 loss to Covington on April 1 and tossed a five inning shutout with six strikeouts to lead West Lafayette over Carroll 10-0 on April 3. In addition to her accomplishments last week, Mansfield struck out 14 in a 10-inning complete game and made 187 pitches including 126 for strikes to beat Twin Lakes 7-6 on April 10.
