Klæbo's Norway and Rydzek's Germany win team sprints
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo was in the usual league of his own to win the last team sprint of the cross country skiing World Cup season together with Evan Northug for Norway on Saturday in Finland.
Klæbo opened a gap on the last leg in Lahti for a comfortable victory ahead of Janik Liebli and Valerio Grond of Switzerland. Richard Jouve and Jules Chappaz salvaged third place for France despite a broken pole and a fall.
Klæbo famously swept all six gold medals at the recent world championships and has also clinched the overall World Cup title for a fifth time in mid-week.
Rydzek wins again
Like Klæbo, Coletta Rydzek made it two wins in two days when she teamed up with Laura Gimmer to win the team sprint for Germany ahead of Sweden's Johanna Hagström and Maya Dahlqvist and the Swiss pair of Anja Weber and Nadine Fähndrich.
Rydzek, who had claimed her maiden career win in Friday's individual sprint where Klæbo was a familiar men's winner, said: "It feels unbelievable. I didn't know what I would have left after yesterday. It is nice to end the season with the victories."
The cross country season concludes with 50km races for the men and women on Sunday. The women's World Cup is also already decided, with American Jessica Diggins top for a third time.
Double delight for Lamparter as well
Austria's Jahannes Lamparter won back to back as well on Friday and Saturday in the conclusion of the men's Nordic combined season.
He dominated the morning ski jump of the final competition and then finished the 10km cross country pursuit 21.2 seconds ahead of German Julian Schmid. Laurent Muhlethaler of France was third.
Germany's Vinzenz Geiger clinched the World Cup trophy last weekend when Norwegian star Jarl Magnus Riiber ended his career at home in Oslo rather then competing in Lahti as well.
Geiger was 15th on Saturday as he finished the World Cup ahead of five-time champion Riiber and 2022-23 winner Lamparter.
Scheduled for later in Lahti was men's large hill ski jumping, where Austrians Daniel Tschefenig and Jan Hörl continue their battle for the World Cup trophy. Four Hills champion Tschofenig leads by 94 points with three events left. A victory is worth 100 points.
