Steel Mount Third-Period Comeback, Edge NTDP U18s
Coming into Saturday, the Chicago Steel had a 1-28-2-0 record when trailing heading into the third period.
Make that two wins now, as the Steel defeated the USA Hockey NTDP U18 team 3-2 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth Saturday night.
Chicago scored three goals in the third period including the game-winner from Cameron Briere with under two minutes left in regulation.
Drew Schock IV started the scoring for the U18s at the 15:11 mark of the first period after sending home a loose puck off a Jacob Kvasnicka shot. For his sixth goal of the season.
The second period saw both teams attempt to score, but the game remained 1-0 entering what would be a memorable third period.
Adam Valentini tied the game at 2:26, then Tobias Ohman gave Chicago a 2-1 lead with 3:15 remaining.
The U18s answered just 11 seconds later, tying the game 2-2 on a Jake Stuart backhander.
Briere scored his game-winner on a power play with 1:32 left. He slipped a shot past U18 goaltender Joey Slavick, securing the 3-2 road victory for the Steel.
The three third period goals were the second-most scored in the third by the Steel this season. They were penalized just once, marking consecutive games with just one infraction and the fourth time this season they only served one penalty.
The Steel have won four of five matchups against the NTDP this season (4-0-1-0). Chicago secured a point for the sixth time in the last eight road games. The team has now registered a point in three consecutive games.
