Manchester City captain Kevin de Bruyne has announced that he will leave the club this summer as a free agent after 10 incredible years with the Premier League champions.

The 33-year-old won 16 trophies since joining Man City from Wolfsburg in 2015 after a brief spell at Chelsea. Among those were six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023.

In a social media post, De Bruyne confirmed his exit:  “Dear Manchester, Seeing this, you probably realise where this is heading.

“So I’ll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be my final months as a Manchester City player. Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes.

“That day is here— and you deserve to hear it from me first. Football led me to all of you—and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club. These people… gave me EVERYTHING.

“I had no choice but to give EVERYTHING back! And guess what — we won EVERYTHING. Whether we like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye.”

De Bruyne will go down as one of the greatest playmakers the Premier League has ever seen. The Belgian recorded 70 goals and 118 assists in the English top flight in 280 appearances while bagging two Player of the Season awards. He topped the assist chart thrice.

De Bruyne has been linked with clubs like River Plate, Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, and San Diego FC, but his future remains shrouded in uncertainty. The Saudi Pro League is also an option for the former Genk star.

De Bruyne will hope to leave Man City on a high note despite their underperformance this season. They are into the semi-final of the FA Cup and are determined to clinch the title after losing the final to arch-rivals Manchester United last term.
