Kelly Clark knows that a win against Rangers at any stage of the season and in any competition is always a big result.
However, given that this Sunday’s derby comes with just eight league games remaining, victory becomes even more important, particularly given Celtic’s current standing in the SWPL table.
The defending champions are currently fourth, seven points behind Rangers in second place, who are themselves two points off the leaders, Hibernian.
Elena Sadiku’s side are determined to get back to winning ways after a run of disappointing results, and Kelly Clark knows that a win over their city rivals can be the perfect boost for the run-in.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s match against Rangers at Broadwood Stadium (KO: 4.10pm), Kelly Clark said: “A win on Sunday would be massive, even if we were first, and it could maybe give us the kick-start for the rest of the season.
“A win against Rangers is good no matter where you are in the league but, given the situation that we’re in, a win would be huge and I would like to think everything about us would jump after it.
“We’re going for a win, as we do in every game we play in, but given where we are, it could be even bigger than usual
“The mood is generally really good, and everybody knows what this game is. They know what it means to the players, the fans, the staff, to everybody and to the club.”
The Celtic captain knows that at this level, and at this stage of the season, every game is decided on fine margins, and she’s hoping that those margins will fall in Celtic’s favour come Sunday afternoon.
“The result against Glasgow City was really frustrating, the most frustrating thing being that we thought our performance deserved more,” Clark said.
“In football, you have to create your own luck at times and I think we did that last year at this period. So that’s what we’ve got make sure we’re doing and it’s those fine details that should make sure we turn that around and start to do that.
“It would be massive to win. We were frustrated with the result the last time we played them.
“We were so good in the first-half, and I think we’ve learned from that since then. The belief is there and if we get the win, then it’s a massive moment for us.”
