Karleigh Osborne previews Brentford Women v South London
Brentford Women head coach Karleigh Osborne is eyeing a strong start to Sunday’s Capital Cup semi-final clash against South London (3pm kick-off GMT).
The Bees won the competition last season and will be looking to qualify for the final once again at Bedfont Sports Club.
“We're very excited," said Osborne. "Every competition we’re in we want to try and win and this is a good opportunity for us to go and hold onto some silverware.
“We’ll be pushing to go and do that. Myself and the players are looking forward to it.
“We have to start strong, the most important thing is we don’t underestimate them. If we don't do that, we’ll go and put in a good performance.”
South London, league rivals of Brentford Women B, have enjoyed a promising campaign so far following their promotion last season.
Osborne said his side would need to be clinical in front of goal again.
“We need to limit them in what they want to do, how they want to play, and make sure that we’re strong in possession but also strong out of possession,” he explained.
“When we’re in front of goal we need to be ruthless, which we have been this season.”
Last time out
The Bees were dominant last time out, with 10 second-half goals seeing them defeat Richmond Park 15-0 in London South East Division One North.
Chloe Logie and Nikki Woods led the way with four goals each, while Ashley Cheatley bagged a hat-trick in another impressive display.
Previously in the Capital Cup, Osborne’s side proved too strong for Camden Town as they ran out 4-2 winners.
Midfielder Freya Worsley and wing-back Maddie Phillips got on the scoresheet in the first half, with Samantha Read’s header forcing an own goal as the Bees took a 3-1 lead into the break.
Logie’s penalty in the second 45 minutes sealed the win at Bedfont.
About South London
South London go into Sunday’s clash sitting fifth in the Greater London Premier Division table, with six wins, a draw and three losses.
They remain 14 points off league-leaders Hammersmith having played four games fewer.
This is South London’s first campaign in the Premier Division following their Greater London Division One South league title and subsequent promotion last season.
Virginia Somers has led the way up front with 15 goals and 11 assists in 16 games.
Johanna Andersson has also impressed with nine goals and two assists.

Brentford were defeated 8-0 at Camden Town last time out.
While the Bees lost 7-0 to Leyton Orient the week prior, they had enjoyed a three-game win streak leading into March.
Wins over Hackney (5-0), Camden and Islington United (6-1) and Kenningwell United (3-2) led the side through their most successful period of the season.
