Kade Hindel's pitching wasn't enough for Tri-Valley baseball at Hiland | Top performers

BERLIN — Kade Hindel gave the defending Division IV state champions quite a tussle on Friday night, but host Hiland made the most of the little offense it produced.

Grady Monigold's long two-run homer down the line in right field the third inning account for the game's only runs in a 2-0 nonleague win against visiting Tri-Valley.

Hindel, who allowed only six hits in a complete game, was bested by Hawks hurler Logan Yoder, who twirled a three-hitter and struck out six.

Tri-Valley had runners on base in the each of the final four innings but failed to score.

River View 3, Morgan 2: Brylee Shannon struck out 12 in a complete game, but the host Black Bears did just enough to secure a Muskingum Valley League-Big School win at Ron Tisko Field..

Reid Johnson scored the go-ahead run on a dropped third strike in the bottom of the fifth inning for River View. Maguire Werntz doubled with two RBIs.

Aaron Baker had two singles for Morgan, which held a 5-4 edge in hits.

Softball

Strasburg 8, Sheridan 7: The visiting Generals took the three-time defending state champions in Division IV to the brink, but the Tigers held on after taking the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Kendall Grosse launched a three-run homer, Payton Powell homered and doubled and Cora Hall homered and singled for Sheridan (6-2); Hailey Mueller doubled in a run.

John Glenn 4, Meadowbrook 2: Kendall Snider piled up 13 strikeouts in a complete game for the visiting Muskies (2-7), who earned their first MVL win.
