Jonesville youth wrestling sends 10 grapplers to MyWay state finals
JONESVILLE — The Jonesville wrestling programs had a big season at the high school level, with two seniors, Cooper Stevens and Ben Colbart, going to Ford Field to compete in the state finals.
While the high school wrestling season is in the books, the Comet wrestling programs continue to show a bright future ahead for their teams, as the youth grapplers are headed to their own state finals.
The Jonesville youth wrestling team started their practices back in October with 47 wrestlers competing. In December, they joined the MyWay circuit and have 22 teams competing in the youth wrestling association. "The MyWay circuit has some of the best competition around our area," coach Mickey Rowe said.
The team had 10 wrestling qualify for the MyWay state finals after placing at the regional tournament, including first place winners Bentley Imhof, Lane Hamilton and Emmitt Town.
Hamilton won via pinfall in his first-place match. Imhof won via a 11-2 major decision in his finals match. Town won via pinfall in his first-place match.
Taking second at the regional event was Brody Carpenter, Robbie Crandall, Tucker Hubbard and Weston McColley.
Earning third was Davison Hoyt and Mike Kuhn, and taking fourth was Brantley Nichols.
The 2025 MyWay youth state championships will take place this weekend from March 20-23. The event will be held at the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo, MI. Wrestling will be an all-day event, and tickets start at $6.
