Join the 29th annual Bob 'Punch' Maiwurm Memorial Golf Scramble in Orrville

The Salvation Army Orrville-Maiwurm Service Center will host its 29th annual Bob "Punch" Maiwurm Memorial Golf Scramble on May 17.

The event will take place at Riceland Golf Course, welcoming amateur and experienced players.

Check-in and breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. and run until 7:45 a.m., with a shotgun start scheduled for 8 a.m. Registration costs $75 per person or $300 for a four-person team, according to an announcement. The fee includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, breakfast and lunch.

Participants will compete for prizes including a $400 cash prize for first place, a $200 for runners-up and a free round of golf for third place, all provided by Riceland Golf Course.

The first-place prize is donated by the Ellis family in honor of the leadership provided by the Maiwurm and Brown families.

In addition to the tournament, players can purchase mulligans, enter a 50/50 raffle sponsored by Brown's Furniture and compete for hole contest prizes. A grand prize drawing will offer a $400 gift certificate for Brown's Furniture.

The fundraiser honors Maiwurm, who founded The Salvation Army in the region in 1939. He began the organization in the basement of his clothing store to assist those in need. Maiwurm received The Salvation Army's Others Award in 1984 for his dedication. He died in 1993, and the organization continues to serve the communities of Orrville, Dalton, Marshallville, Kidron and North Lawrence.
