Jillian Barr made Delta history in basketball season. Now she's doing the same in track

INDIANAPOLIS — The record book at Delta High School can't keep up with Jillian Barr.

Between basketball and track, the junior has firmly established herself as a two-sport star for the Eagles. In February's IHSAA girls basketball state tournament, Barr led Delta to its deepest postseason run in school history. Now, in the early goings of track season, Barr has broken or helped break multiple indoor school records in the girls 60 meter hurdles and the 4x200 relay.

"I've just become stronger as the season's gone," Barr said. "I've been hitting the weight room, so that really helps. But just like perfecting my form, because last year was my first year doing hurdles, so now that I've gone through it, I know exactly what to do, just becoming stronger and faster between each hurdle."

Delta's track and field season began at the Hoosier State Relays qualifier hosted by Muncie Burris on March 8, where Barr ran the 60 hurdles in 9.83 seconds and anchored the 4x200 team as it finished in a minutes and 57.14 seconds, setting new school records in both. A week later on March 15, she set the 60 hurdles record again at the Indiana Wesleyan HSR qualifier with a time of 9.54 seconds.

Then, at Saturday's HSR indoor state championships, Barr ran the 60 hurdles in 9.34 seconds to break the school record for the third time this season. The girls 4x200 team also improved on its own record with a time of 1:50.64.

"It feels great. I know that I can do a lot better, just pursue my stuff every day," Barr said.

Barr already etched her name in school history during basketball season, when she led Delta on a historic run. She averaged 16.7 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 4.0 steals and 2.4 blocks per game, leading the team in everything but assists. Barr led the Eagles to their first IHSAA girls basketball sectional title in 32 years and the first regional title in program ...
