If you view Travis Hunter as a cornerback, he'll be the first off the board. After that, it'll be between Will Johnson and Jahdae Barron on who gets drafted next. Barron can't control who gets drafted when, but he confidently declared himself the best in the class at Texas' pro day. "I most definitely believe that I am CB1," stated Barron. What sets Barron apart from his peers is his versatility.
"I can do a lot. I can go play corner, I can play nickel, and I can play safety. So I'm what you need, and I can go do it for you in the most humble way," Barron stated. Terry Joseph, the Saints’ defensive pass game coordinator, has been Barron’s secondary coach since 2021, so he was able to see this versatility. When in the draft room, this type of insight will come into play.
You want your cornerbacks to be confident, and Barron has that in spades. His mentality is, "the 'might' word has never been with me. I always believe I am the best, and then I show with my play and my actions, not just in my words, that I'm the best."
It'll be about who the Saints feel is the best fit in their defense, but there's no question Barron has the mentality of a first round cornerback.
