Jaguars' free agent CB Jourdan Lewis reveals what number he will wear

Jacksonville Jaguars free agent cornerback Jourdan Lewis revealed what number he will be wearing this season.

Lewis posted on X that he is going to be wearing the No. 2 for the Jaguars. This number for the Jaguars previously belonged to running back D'Ernest Johnson, who is a free agent this offseason and was not re-signed.

Lewis signed a three-year, $30 million deal with $20 million guaranteed to join the Jaguars at the start of free agency. He spent his previous eight seasons with the Dallas Cowboys after being a third-round pick by the team in 2017.

Lewis will take over the Jaguars' nickel cornerback duties, although GM James Gladstone did mention that he likes his versatility. Gladstone added that Lewis brings a "level of doggedness" and "toughness" to the Jaguars' secondary. His experience will also provide some needed stability at that position group as well.

Lewis was one of the better slot defenders in football last season, ranking eighth in yards per snap allowed, seventh in snaps per target, and eighth in snaps per reception, according to PFF.

Head coach Liam Coen recently raved about the addition of Lewis, recalling a play he made last season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Coen was the offensive coordinator.

"Those guys that do it like that at a high level and are able to communicate as well at a high level, those are the guys that we’re trying to bring in," Coen said of Lewis. "He’s completely what we’re looking for and really excited to have him.”
